Under the watchful gaze of the giant monument of his father, Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta formally abandoned the party of independence Kanu and launched his own new party, The National Alliance TNA. Several thousand supporters flocked the KICC for a launch that saw the party putting up a ruthless display of both organizational and financial muscle. The latest technology including live satellite relays were among the stops made by Uhuru party as it made what was certainly a tumultuous entry to the expanding scene of political parties.
